Les Miserables Long Beach Theatre reviews
Extremely Dissapointing
I saw the original tour years ago and it was great -- but not this one. The sets were spectacular, the use of projection creative, but the voices only average on the whole.
But, the biggest reason I can only give the current production 2 stars is because of the "modernization" of the script and staging. It seems in an attempt to create some buzz about the new production "shock" value was introduced in the form of increased profanity, vulgarity and constant inappropriate use of "God" and "Jesus". If you know anything of the story, you are aware of prostitution playing a major role in the overall plot. But the pelvic thrusting and groping were completely out of place and unnecessary for such a story as Les Mis and such a talented group of actors.
I am 46 and was embarrassed to sit through portions of the play. I cannot imagine attending the current production with anyone I know and respect. I am so glad I did not take my children. I cannot in good conscience recommend this play to anyone.
